installation - Xbox app installation and update check error

Question

When I try to install the newer Xbox app, I get the error code 0x80070424. I googled it and it seems to be a windows update error, sure enough, I can't check for updates either, with the same error code. I have tried lots of online tutorials but still cannot manage to fix this error! Nothing works! If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated. (P.S. I have also tried installing the app with a .exe installer, with the same result.) I have windows 10, an Xbox one that probably has nothing to do with it.
